electricmaenad I heard this song on CBC one evening when I was driving home from work, missed the announcement of the song title and artist's name, and spent the next several nights trawling the Indigenous + Canada tags on Bandcamp. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Favorite track: Ko'jua.

about

Just like a Young Eagle that takes his first flight, Morgan Toney is like that Young Eagle. His Spirit Name is Nutkwe'k Kitpu, which translates to Young Eagle. It was that spirit name that inspired the name of the album as well as the direction of the album. Within this album, you will hear Mi'kmaq songs with a twist, as well as Fiddle sets (most being Morgan's compositions).

I just want to say Thank you to all of you: the listeners for purchasing this album. You all have been an important part of making this album reality. Thank you for motivating me, encouraging me, and thanking me because I heard all of the stories of how most of you will dance to my songs in your kitchen and/or living room. Thank you CBC Radio One for playing my Music on your Radio station. It was so great to hear Ko’jua and Alasutamaqn on the radio. To my Mom & Dad, thank you for raising a fine young lad. I bet you never saw this coming eh? I am so proud to say that I’m Jackie Toney & Christopher Francis’ son. I’m going to acknowledge my Brother (not by blood) Anthony Stevens Jr. for coming to my shows and to the studio on many occasions to watch this magic unfold. He is just as shocked as Ma, and he is definitely proud to call me his brother! To my bros Gavin, Julian, Justine, and Deanna - thank you for encouraging me to keep going, to never stop, and to aim for the stars. Thank you Bradley Murphy and Mary Beth Carty, my two great friends. You have been there for me since the start of my musical journey and I’m just so happy that you two got to appear on the album... and how could I forget Ashley! Ashley MacIsaac, brother, thank you so much for appearing on the album as well. I am so thankful for our friendship which sets started when I opened up the Celtic Colours festival with you last year. It is a moment that I will never forget and I hope that we can do more of those moments again soon. Thank you Debbie, my sister (not my blood.. also Anthony’s sister) for coming to my shows and just being there for me in times when I got overwhelmed. You are a huge part of my life. To my Sisters (by blood), to my Family, and to all of you, This record is for you! Enjoy it! Show your friends, show an Elder - let’s make this a huge moment for all of us. Also, thank you Norman Bernard, my Chief and to the Wagmatcook Council for supporting me. Thank you to my Beautiful Girlfriend Moriah for believing in me and being that light in my life that I needed for a very long time. Your words of encouragement, of love, and of motivation have pushed me through these tough pandemic times. I’m so lucky to have you in my life. On the next album, I’ll make sure to add the two compositions I wrote for you. Oh, I’m not finished yet! A HUGE Thank you goes out to all of you who donated towards the album through gofundme!
